Rebecca first reached out when she was still very young. Persistent, enthusiastic, clearly wanting to shoot—but too young for me to work with without a parent present. I told her her mom would need to be there. Schedules didn’t line up. Time passed.
She didn’t disappear.
When she turned eighteen, she showed up.
That mattered to me. Not the urgency, but the patience. The willingness to wait, to respect the boundary, and still want the work badly enough to come back when the timing was right.
This was our first shoot together, back in December 2014. In the studio. Simple setup. No excess. She was eager, attentive, and serious about being there. You can see it in the frames—the focus, the effort, the way she held herself while still figuring things out.
We didn’t shoot many times after that. Life moved. Years passed. Nearly a decade before we worked together again.
Looking back now, these images feel like a beginning in the truest sense. Not polished. Not fully formed. But honest. Intentional. The first marks of something that would take time to grow.
