Back in the day we used to run casting calls — four or five girls in a single day, studio setup, makeup, styling, the whole thing. Zannah came through one of those and from the moment we started shooting it was clear she belonged in front of a camera.
She already knew her angles. That's not something you can teach and it's not something every model has, even experienced ones. She just had an instinct for where she was in relation to the lens and she worked with it naturally.
We shot on location that day — open shade, beach, the trees giving us texture and dappled light. Some of it natural, some artificial, all of it easy because she made it easy. The smile you see in these frames isn't performance. That was just Zannah.
We went on to shoot together several more times over the next few years. This was the first. You can tell.
